Hornblower Group Appoints Mike Flaskey as CEO

Hornblower Group, a ferry service and day-tour company, recently appointed hotel industry executive Mike Flaskey as its new CEO following the completion of the company’s bankruptcy proceedings. Flaskey takes over the position previously held by Kevin Rabbitt, who had been the chief executive since June 2020. Flaskey brings with him a wealth of experience in the hotel industry, having previously served as the CEO of Diamond Resorts and in other leadership roles at Wyndham Vacation Resorts and Starwood Hotels & Resorts.

Flaskey’s appointment comes on the heels of Hornblower Group emerging from its Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings and financial restructuring under new ownership in July. The company was acquired by private equity firm Strategic Value Partners, leading to the dissolution of its river cruise brand, American Queen Voyages (AQV). Jonathan Waggoner, co-head of the North America operating team at Strategic Value Partners, expressed confidence in Flaskey’s ability to lead the company, citing his vision for the future of Hornblower and his passion for service quality.

In accepting his new role, Flaskey highlighted Hornblower Group’s commitment to experience-based initiatives across its business units, which collectively reach over 20 million guests annually. Flaskey expressed optimism about the company’s potential for growth and innovation, stating that the widespread reach of its business units provides flexibility for future expansion. He emphasized the importance of the operators who deliver services on a daily basis and the need for leadership to guide the company through its next phase of development.

Transition and Acknowledgment

Following Rabbitt’s departure, Hornblower Group extended gratitude for his leadership and strategic vision during his tenure with the company. Rabbitt’s commitment to excellence and key milestones were noted as instrumental in preparing the company for the future. Despite the transition in leadership, Hornblower Group continues to manage City Experiences, City Cruises, City Ferry, and other marine services and consulting projects.

The appointment of Mike Flaskey as CEO marks a new chapter for Hornblower Group as it navigates post-bankruptcy recovery and sets its sights on future growth and innovation in the travel and leisure industry. With his extensive experience and leadership skills, Flaskey is poised to lead the company to new heights and build on its legacy of exceptional service and customer satisfaction.
