Celebrating Black Culinary Excellence at The Family Reunion in Middleburg

The Family Reunion at the Salamander Middleburg is not just a gathering, it is an experience that transforms strangers into family. With approximately 1,000 attendees, the challenge of fostering deep connections may seem daunting. However, at the welcome reception, guests quickly formed bonds over wine, conversation, and even dancing the Cupid Shuffle.

In its fourth year, The Family Reunion is curated by the renowned chef Kwame Onwuachi, whose restaurant Tatiana in New York City has earned accolades as one of the best in the city. Co-hosted by Sheila Johnson, CEO of Salamander Hotels & Resorts, the event brought together a fusion of talent and expertise. While the star power of Johnson and Onwauchi was undeniable, the real spotlight shone on the exceptional culinary offerings.

The massive white tent at the event became a hub of gastronomic delights as attendees indulged in offerings from top barbecue pitmasters across the country. From smoked beef ribs with jerk sauce to oxtail so popular it sold out early, the array of flavors was exceptional. Hand pies with cherry filling served as a sweet ending to the culinary journey, showcasing the creativity of the Salamander culinary team.

As the evening progressed, Sheila Johnson and Kwame Onwauchi graced the stage to officially welcome the guests. Johnson seized the moment to celebrate the expansion of Salamander Hotels & Resorts into Washington D.C. and to announce Onwauchi’s upcoming restaurant, Dogon. The mood was festive and appreciative, with Johnson expressing gratitude to the attendees and sponsors for their unwavering support in making the event a success.

The Family Reunion at the Salamander Middleburg is more than just a gathering; it is a celebration of culture, culinary artistry, and community. In a world where connections are often fleeting, this event stands out as a beacon of togetherness and shared experiences. With each clink of a wine glass and every bite of exquisite food, strangers become friends, and friends become family. The legacy of The Family Reunion continues to grow, leaving a lasting impression on all who attend.
