Oceania Cruises prides itself on its reputation for offering the „finest cuisine at sea.“ While such a claim may seem bold in a sea of luxury cruise competitors, Oceania Cruises manages to deliver on this promise without the added upcharges that have become commonplace in the industry. On a recent voyage through the Greek Isles and Turkey on the Oceania Riviera, I was fortunate enough to experience firsthand the culinary excellence that sets Oceania Cruises apart from the rest.
One of the standout features of Oceania Cruises is its culinary focus that extends beyond just gourmet dining in specialty restaurants. The daily excursions offered on board include a range of options, from traditional to active, with a special emphasis on gastronomy and wine-focused tours. Additionally, the ship boasts an onboard cooking school where guests can partake in daily classes led by master chefs. This hyperfocus on all things culinary provides a unique and enticing alternative for both serious food enthusiasts and travelers looking for new and exciting activities in familiar destinations.
During a stop in Santorini, I had the opportunity to join one of Oceania’s small-group excursions in collaboration with Food & Wine Trails, a culinary travel company. Led by local sommeliers, chefs, and wine experts, these tours are designed to introduce visitors to the authentic flavors of the region. We discovered that Santorini is home to the oldest continually cultivated vineyards globally and produces some of the most exquisite white wines. Our visit to Boutari Winery not only provided insights into the island’s winemaking history but also allowed us to sample some outstanding wines paired with a traditional Greek meal.
A chef-led excursion in the Turkish village of Kirazli showcased the rich culinary heritage of Turkey. Led by Oceania’s chef instructor, we sampled local produce at a roadside stand before indulging in a feast of Turkish delicacies at a quaint boutique hotel. From rolling Turkish dolmas to preparing manti, Turkish dumplings, we had a hands-on experience with authentic Turkish cuisine. The onboard cooking classes further enriched our culinary journey, offering insights into regional dishes and specialties.
Oceania Cruises spoils its guests with a wide array of dining options, from reservations-only specialty restaurants to the Grand Dining Room and the casual yet delectable Terrace Cafe. Each venue offers a unique culinary experience, from creamy gnocchi at Toscana to flavorful pad thai at Red Ginger. The Grand Dining Room rivals the specialty restaurants with its exquisite dishes, including a standout beef bourguignon served over perfectly cooked noodles.
Oceania Cruises truly lives up to its reputation as a leader in culinary excellence at sea. With a focus on quality ingredients, authentic flavors, and a dedication to providing a truly gastronomic experience, Oceania Cruises has established itself as a food lover’s paradise on the high seas.
