Upon my first visit to Rwanda for primate trekking, I was left stunned by the natural beauty that the country had to offer. Beyond the expected sights, such as tea plantations and the landscapes of a thousand hills, I encountered the singing fishermen of Lake Kivu whose work at night from tri-hulled boats left a lasting impression. Rwanda’s reconciliation efforts post-genocide also stood out, with genocide memorials approaching the country’s difficult history with respect and transparency. The primate trekking experiences in Volcanoes National Park were also memorable, with close encounters with fascinating wildlife making it a truly unforgettable journey.

The hospitality of the Bedouin camp hosts provided a unique insight into their nomadic lifestyle, creating a memorable connection that added depth to my journey through this lesser-known destination.

The UNESCO-honored Bay of Kotor, often mistaken for a fjord, presents travelers with stunning views and historical sites worth exploring. The warmth of the locals, such as the talkative priest in a Serbian Orthodox church, added a personal touch to my journey. Cycling along the Adriatic Sea, encountering picturesque villages like Sveti Stefan, left a lasting impression, luring me back to experience more of Montenegro’s charm.
Venturing to Antarctica, I was captivated by the purity and beauty of the untouched landscapes that greeted me. The endless white and fiery orange sunsets created a surreal backdrop for our exploration on foot and by kayak. Visiting the Polish research base on King George Island allowed for a glimpse into the lives of those living in such remote conditions, highlighting the importance of human connection in even the most extreme environments. The desire to return to the White Continent and experience its serene beauty once more is a testament to the allure of this frozen paradise.
