Park City’s Deer Valley Resort Announces Big Expansion Plans

Park City’s Deer Valley Resort is set to undergo a massive expansion, with the new Deer Valley East Village opening earlier than expected. This development will more than double the size of the resort, offering visitors access to 20 new runs spanning 316 skiable acres. Additionally, three new lifts will be in operation during the upcoming ski season, along with the opening of 500 parking spaces. The East Village expansion is sure to bring a new level of excitement and adventure to Deer Valley.

One of the highlights of the new expansion is the introduction of the Keetley Express, which will be Deer Valley’s first six-person chairlift with a bubble. Scheduled to open in December, this lift will provide direct access from Deer Valley East Village to the existing resort area. The Hoodoo Express and Aurora chairlifts will cater to beginner-level ski trails, offering convenient return access to Deer Valley East Village. Once completed, the East Village expansion will boast an impressive 3,700 skiable acres, making Deer Valley the fourth largest ski resort in the U.S.

The Deer Valley expansion is part of a larger $300 million capital investment program by Alterra Mountain Company, the resort’s owner. This investment will span across 16 North American ski areas, including Crystal Mountain in Washington State, Mammoth Mountain in California, Big Bear Mountain Resort in California, and Sugarbush and Stratton in Vermont. Crystal Mountain will see the launch of the Mountain Commons Lodge, offering enhanced services and dining options. Mammoth Mountain is set to upgrade its lift system, replacing the Broadway Express chair with a high-speed, six-person lift to increase capacity by 25%. These investments reflect a commitment to enhancing the overall ski experience for visitors across Alterra Mountain Company’s portfolio of resorts.

In addition to the expansion of skiable acreage, Deer Valley’s East Village is also set to see the construction of 800 hotel rooms, 1,700 residential units, and 250,000 square feet of commercial space. This development will create a vibrant village atmosphere, offering visitors a range of accommodation, dining, and entertainment options. The future looks bright for Deer Valley Resort, with plans in place to further enhance the overall guest experience and solidify its position as a premier ski destination in North America.
