Oracle software billionaire Larry Ellison recently added the 309-room Eau Palm Beach Resort & Spa in Manalapan, Florida to his extensive hotel portfolio. This acquisition, from the London-based Lewis Trust Group, marks another strategic investment for Ellison who already owns several luxury properties across the United States. Some of the other notable properties in Ellison’s portfolio include the Four Seasons Resort Lanai, Sensei Lanai, Nobu Ryokan Malibu, Nobu Hotel Palo Alto, Hyatt Regency Lake Tahoe, and Sensei Porcupine Creek in Rancho Mirage, California.
Originally established as La Coquille Club in the 1950s, the resort has a rich history and has undergone several transformations over the years. In the initial heyday of the resort in the 1950s, it served as a playground for elites such as the Fords, Vanderbilts, and Rockefellers. In the late 1970s, the Simon family, owners of the Vanderbilt estate, obtained permission to raze the club and build the Ritz-Carlton Palm Beach, which eventually opened in the early 1990s. The property has since evolved and been rebranded into its current independent name, operating as a member of Preferred Hotels & Resorts Legend Collection.
Ellison’s acquisition of the Eau Palm Beach Resort & Spa comes after a multimillion-dollar renovation in 2022. With plans to further invest in the property, Ellison aims to restore the resort to its former glory and enhance the guest experience. Located just south of Palm Beach, the 8-acre resort boasts seaside swimming pools, a 42,000-square-foot spa, 32,000 square feet of meeting space, and several restaurants. Additionally, locals still have access to the La Coquille Club located within the resort, preserving a sense of community and exclusivity.
Larry Ellison’s acquisition of the Eau Palm Beach Resort & Spa represents a significant addition to his impressive hotel portfolio. With a rich history, strategic location, and planned investments, the resort is poised to attract elite guests and maintain its status as a premier luxury destination in Florida.
