The Future of Korean Air: New Boeing Aircraft Purchase

Korean Air has recently announced its decision to purchase 50 new widebody aircraft from Boeing. This order includes 20 Boeing 777-9 aircraft, 20 Boeing 787-10s, with an option for an additional 10 787-10s. This move signals Korean Air’s commitment to enhancing its long-haul flight capabilities to North America and Europe, especially following the merger with Asiana Airlines.

Currently, only the U.S. regulatory authority is pending approval for the merger between Korean Air and Asiana Airlines. CEO Walter Cho has expressed optimism regarding the approval process, expecting it to be completed by October. This merger, along with the new aircraft purchase, aims to strengthen Korean Air’s position in the global aviation industry.

The delivery of Korean Air’s first Boeing 787-10 Dreamliner showcases the carrier’s commitment to providing a premium passenger experience. The aircraft will debut the new Prestige Suites 2.0 business class, featuring 36 independent seats with aisle access and open tops. The seats can fully recline into a bed, offering an extended length of 78 inches, a seat pitch of 46 inches, and a width of 21 inches.

Both Prestige and economy class passengers will enjoy high-resolution 4K monitors, with Prestige passengers receiving 24-inch monitors with Bluetooth audio support, and economy passengers having 12-inch monitors. Additionally, each seat comes with dedicated compartments for personal items, 60W „ultrafast“ USB-C charging, and wireless charging capabilities. The economy seats will be arranged in a 3-3-3 configuration with up to 120-degree recline, a seat pitch of 32 inches, and a width of 17.2 inches.

As Korean Air continues to expand its fleet and enhance its passenger experience, the future looks promising for the airline. With a focus on long-haul routes and innovative features, Korean Air is poised to attract a new generation of travelers and maintain its status as a leading global carrier in the aviation industry.
