The Manchester Grand Hyatt San Diego is embarking on a significant renovation initiative that aims to redefine the guest experience through a comprehensive upgrade lasting until winter 2026. This endeavor encompasses over 1,628 rooms and suites, combined with an impressive 320,000 square feet dedicated to both indoor and outdoor meeting spaces, dining facilities, and recreational areas. The hotel’s general manager, Dena Roady, proclaimed that the project seeks to establish a “modern atmosphere” that pays homage to the breathtaking bayfront locale, marrying comfort with contemporary design.

The guestroom and suite refurbishment will be executed in two distinct phases, commencing with the Seaport Tower, which is expected to welcome guests by winter 2025. Following closely afterward, the Harbor Tower will see its transformation completed in summer 2026. Drawing inspiration from classic nautical aesthetics, the redesigned guestrooms will feature rich wooden elements paired with calming blue tones, creating a serene retreat for visitors. This attention to detail promises to infuse elements of coastal living into the overall vibe throughout the hotel.

In addition to the accommodations, the venue’s meeting and event areas will experience an extensive makeover. The signature Harbor and Seaport ballrooms will form the centerpiece of this redesign, integrating modern technological advancements such as top-tier WiFi and advanced audiovisual capabilities. The pre-function and breakout spaces will evoke the tranquility of ocean waves through custom-designed carpeting and mood lighting, while newly crafted outdoor terraces will afford guests stunning panoramic views of San Diego’s picturesque bay.

As part of the renovation efforts, the hotel’s flagship restaurant, Sally’s, is set to complete its transformation by March of this year. The dining experience will shift toward an open-air, waterfront concept featuring Baja Med-inspired cuisine crafted by Chef Alvaro Garcia. Signature offerings will include delectables like grilled octopus, ceviche, and a seafood tower, promising a feast that tantalizes the senses against a stunning backdrop.

Further enhancing the guest experience, the Grand Hyatt’s recreational facilities will receive thoughtful updates aimed at delivering a more refined resort experience. This includes the introduction of two captivating rooftop pool decks that provide sweeping views of both the harbor and the city skyline. An adults-only pool, serving refreshing cocktails, is slated to open on the third floor by winter 2025, with a reimagined family pool following suit in winter 2026. Enhanced sporting facilities, as well as an updated fitness center, are also part of the initiative, with completion targeted for mid-2026.
